Faculty, working through Auburn University’s Center for Opioid Research, Education, and Outreach and its Substance Use and Misuse Institute, have developed educational programs on substance use disorders and their impact on an individual’s mental health. Works by Dr. Haley Phillippe, Brent Fox, and Karen Marlowe are supported by $750,000 in sponsored project funding from the Alabama Department of Mental Health through Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Supplementary Awards.

The educational program developed is available online in the form of webinars and is aimed at two main cohorts: community leaders and healthcare professionals. Medical professionals are eligible to receive continuing education credits. The content presented focuses on emerging trends in substance use disorders in Alabama, particularly the prevalence of substance use disorders among vulnerable populations. The project will end at the end of this year and the webinar will be accessible until his September 2024.
