Fostering the Future, a Be Best initiative, secures educational opportunities for children in foster care communities. Our continued commitment is very important. According to the National Foster Institute for Youth Research, only 50% of foster children graduate from high school, and only 3% of former foster children earn a college degree. We must strive to improve these scores and limit external stressors to protect future generations. Our children are coping with pressures that previous generations did not necessarily face. In fact, one in five of her children has a serious mental illness now or at some point in her life, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Last month, the Drug Enforcement Administration warned families about rainbow fentanyl targeting children.There have been at least 113 shootings on school grounds, with 41 nationwide this year alone, according to Everytown Research and Policy. 82 people were killed and 82 were injured. These stats are staggering and should be reversed.
